May 2005 Final Musing for the Month

Well I've been busy with my digital art (see blog) and have enjoyed blogging so far.

I'm pleased I've had at least a couple of comments (although one was a mis-post :-D)

Anyway, on to June (probably means some moons in terms of my digital art)
Tell me, if I use digital media to get inspiration and then paint it; is the final painting art or painting by numbers?

Ok, so if I used halucinagenic drugs and then painted what I saw - is that art?

If not then William Blake has a problem ;-)

Irises

I've just been watching the Chelsea Flower show piece on Irises which are my favorite flower

http://www.iris-cayeux.com/index_us.htm

Monsieur Cayeux on the web. Wasn't he so in to them?

Iris was in fact a Greek godess

I just think they are the most beautiful flower on earth, I can't wait till mine come out.

When they do, I'll post them on my photo blog (link in the sidebar)

The 80/20 Rule

I'm a real stickler for facts!!

If you quote this then at least know the mathematical source

Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP)

I happen to be a Master Practitioner of NLP (not a lot of people know that!)

I am not into heavy marketing but I know who I trust.

Free Advice - Worth what you pay for it?

Well it has been nearly a week since I started this blog. Enough time for me to reflect on a few things.

What strikes me most (apart from how easy it is to "exercise free speech") is that commercially it is also free.

Admittedly, you need some resources to be able to create a blog, but the cost of hosting with Google is currently free.

This has prompted me to 'muse' on other aspects of freedom and I'd like to share some thoughts on Free Advice.

First some (humble) opinions ;-)

I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of the web community. You reach out seeking to enhance your knowledge or awareness on some topic and someone out there has either published useful information or is prepared interactively to help you out.

Big deal you might say, but in the commercial world we live in advice comes in two forms

  • Infromation I have and you are going to pay for it
  • Information I have and I'm happy to share it (no matter what it cost me!)

The first is commercial and understandable; the second is rarer and altruistic (and ultimately free to the user)

So, perhaps the adage that advice is worth what you pay for it (i.e. implying that if it is free it is worth nothing) is wrong.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

So........share!

Santa Fe Institute Working Papers

This is a great location for free scientific papers. Ok so some are very dry and mathematical, but some are very enlightening

Friday 13th

Personally, I think it is all in the mind. If you believe it will be unlucky it will be.

You get what you focus on
